Mr Manhattan was my first original key art and movie poster designed for Great American Pure Flix—a high-profile, higher-budget faith-based film starring the PenaVegas. The story follows an ambitious Manhattan executive who unexpectedly becomes the guardian of his niece and nephew, forcing him to reevaluate his priorities, family, and faith. I was given creative freedom to explore fresh ideas beyond typical templates while ensuring the final key art remained uplifting, modern, and true to the brand’s wholesome, family-friendly storytelling.
Process
Here is the process of the final key art. This design was chosen because it stayed true to Pure Flix’s brand - main characters in the foreground and the location as the background. One big challenge for me was creating a seamless, cinematic poster. Through countless tutorials, I learned pro techniques in lighting, blending, and retouching, elevating my key art skills. The chosen design launched successfully, topping Pure Flix streams and became the #1 streaming movie on Pure Flix at launch with the trailer generated 645K views on Instagram, showing strong audience engagement.
Title treatment explorations. I experimented with serif fonts for a sophisticated Manhattan feel and sans serif for a lighthearted vibe. Added vector outline of Manhattan city scape to create a fun touch.
Option 2: Minimalist Character Focused Approach. I used the movie The Pacifier as a reference. Simple no background just focusing on the lead actor personality. In the movie he was overwhelmed with the sudden change in his life so I picked this pose of him to represent his struggle but also light hearted mood.
Option 3: Family-Centric, lighthearted approach. Used Raising Helen as a reference. Created warm tone to convey the love story, heartfelt uplifting mood.
Another title treatment explorations. With this design I explored using sans serif font similar to Mrs Doubtfire title treatment to show the lighthearted and comedic element.
